Megabus.com, the UK’s market-leading low-cost inter-city coach service, is offering 100,000 free seats to assist efforts to attract tourists back to London in the wake of the bombings in the capital.
The move follows media reports that the terrorist attacks had affected the level of leisure trips to London.
Brian Souter, Chief Executive of Stagecoach Group, said: “There is no doubt that discretionary leisure travel to London was affected in the immediate aftermath of the bombings.
“The good news is that, over the past few weeks, there is evidence that customer confidence is growing and tourists are starting to return to the capital.
“We hope our offer of 100,000 free seats will give people a massive incentive to travel to London and see the great attractions the city has to offer.”
The 100,000 free seats, which go on sale from today, will be available for Monday to Thursday journeys to and from London* from 12 September until 12 December.
Megabus.com, which celebrates its second anniversary this month, has seen weekly passenger numbers shoot up by nearly 25% in the last six months.
More than 2.6 million passengers have travelled with megabus.com since the first trial route was launched in August 2003 and a national network went live in March 2004.
Megabus.com runs a network of inter-city services covering 34 locations across the UK, with fares starting from as low as £1.
This summer, megabus.com introduced a £6.5 million fleet of new state-of-the-art double-decker coaches with air-conditioning, toilets and more comfortable seats.
